Winter Season Focus: Focusing on the Individual Within a Team Environment

The Winter Off-Season is Ending: Take a look back at the major concepts from the last two months and the on-field emphasis for our Winter Season:

- Focusing on Technique & Reps: Quality Reps are the Key! Focusing on Breaking Down the Technique and getting the muscle memory to twitch on point time after time.

- Speed of Play & Playing in Tight Spaces: In order to excel at the next level, you must be able to play at a fast pace and in tight spaces. The Winter Season emphasis has been on pace of the training, and ability to keep the ball, work together, and make quality decisions in tight spaces!

- Improving Speed, Endurance, and Mental Toughness: All players need to be pushed. The off-season is the time to take your individual game to new heights, and all players are asked to go hard and push themselves to play at their highest potential!

Girls Are Putting in the Work Out West!

A Big Shout Out to the West Dick Cook Coaches & Trainers!

They continue to push the girls each week and it’s been a great value add to the Winter Season!

“Team ONE West focused on strengthening muscle groups particularly targeted for shooting, changing speed and changing direction. For some girls, this was their first experience utilizing weights so learning proper technique from the staff at Dick Cook was so valuable. The training provided the opportunity for the team to connect off the lacrosse field while still developing transferable skills to make them stronger in the upcoming season! “

JANUARY 2022

WINTER SEASON 101: TIME TO REFINE!

Team ONE North started the season by focusing on the fundamentals - stickwork, proper technique and channeling our competitiveness. This Winter, our goal is to get back to the basics and find more discipline in the little things to bring our game to the next level.

“Discipline is the bridge between your athletics goals & athletics success.”

We plan on taking advantage of the next 7 weeks to refine and improve our individual skill sets as we prepare for the upcoming Spring season!

BRAVERY BALL: RUN TOWARDS THE PRESSURE!

Team ONE West kicked off their Winter season strongly with virtual team meetings to set goals for the 2022 Winter season and discuss their Winter theme: Bravery. Each week, a player who displays courage and bravery through their actions on the field will be selected to receive the Team ONE West Bravery Ball. The Bravery Ball is a constant representation and reminder to play courageously and always strive to get outside of our comfort zone as players and teammates!

“We wanted to reward our players with a physical tool of remembrance to live out the Team ONE theme. Of course we want our girls to be brave on the lacrosse field, but equally as important, we want them to be brave in the classroom and in social settings when confidence and courage are often put to the test.” - Gina Fisher, Girls Team ONE West Director

BYSTOL TRAINING: WE ARE STRONG ON & OFF THE FIELD

Team ONE Wildcats kicked off their Winter season strong with lots of high intensity reps, game play, and athletic development at Bystol Sports. This Winter our theme is “getting back to the basics” and building a strong foundation. Just as a building is only as tall as the foundation is strong, our players’ ceilings are only as tall as their foundation allows them to grow.

Bystol Focus: In weeks 1 & 2 we have been working on functional movements that eventually build up to a focus on explosiveness. This has been a tremendous opportunity for our athletes to grow in a different setting and strengthen our competitive edge.

SANDSTORM TOURNAMENT: LESSONS LEARNED IN THE SUN!

Our 2026 & 2027 Wildcats escaped the Chicago cold front to compete under the warm sun in Palm Springs at Sandstorm, the biggest lacrosse tournament in the country. The teams enjoyed the competition and team bonding that took place on & off the fields. Lots of lessons were learned and it was a great opportunity to kick off our Winter season with motivation and clarity on how we can get stronger together!

MONTHLY COACH HIGHLIGHT - QUINN MELIDONNA

Welcome Coach Quinn Melidonna to the Team ONE Family! Quinn comes to Team ONE from the University of Michigan where she was an anchor to their success on and off the field. Quinn served as a Team Captain in 2020 and was one of very few players to start and play in all of her collegiate games from 2018-2020. Coach Quinn is a tremendous player, leader, mentor, and coach. We are thrilled to have her as part of our coaching staff and to learn from her immense lacrosse knowledge and experience. Please give her a warm welcome if you catch her on the field!
